Monique Thomas

Monique Thomas is a seasoned healthcare and business professional with a unique blend of psychological insight, medical administration expertise, and entrepreneurial leadership. She holds both a Bachelor of Arts and an Honours degree in Applied Psychology from the University of South Africa (UNISA), alongside a Diploma in Human Resources Management from the University of Cape Town (UCT). Her qualifications are further supported by multiple certifications in medical coding, debt collection, practice management, and medical reception—reflecting her commitment to operational excellence in healthcare.

From an early age, Monique was inspired by her parents' dedication to business, which ignited her entrepreneurial spirit and set the foundation for her career. That passion matured through hands-on experience managing international medical practices in South Africa, Turkey, and the Maldives—immersing her in a wide spectrum of healthcare systems and cultural dynamics. This global exposure cultivated not only a deep appreciation for diversity but also a strategic understanding of the evolving needs within the medical industry.

In 2021, Monique founded Mzanzi Spine, a proudly female-paneled medical supply company focused on empowering women and creating sustainable, locally driven solutions for South African healthcare. As Director, she leads with compassion, decisiveness, and a people-first philosophy. She is deeply involved in every aspect of the business, advocating for community upliftment, equitable access to resources, and the advancement of women in the medical supply chain.

Monique is a purpose-driven leader guided by empathy, resilience, and a philanthropic spirit. She believes strongly in “paying it forward,” using her platform to mentor, uplift, and create pathways for others—especially women—to thrive in business and healthcare alike.

Simoné Nel

Simoné Nel

General Manager

Simoné Nel is the General Manager at Mzanzi Spine, a medical supplies and devices company servicing both state and private healthcare facilities across South Africa. She has over 10 years of experience in the medical field, having worked extensively as both a Practice Manager and in medical reception.

This background has given her a strong operational understanding of healthcare environments, patient flow, clinical support systems, and stakeholder engagement. She also has extensive knowledge of pathology processes and infection control protocols, which are critical within both hospital and theatre settings.

In her current role, she oversees human resources functions, including compliance, staff development, and organisational processes, while also managing client relationships to ensure service excellence and alignment with the needs of healthcare providers. She has completed her CRICE training and holds a Diploma in HR Management as well as her MBA certificate, which supports her structured and compliance-driven approach to both people management and customer relations.

Thanzi Mulomowandau

Thanzi Mulomowandau

Clinical Assistant

Thanzi is a compassionate and dedicated healthcare professional who brings a strong foundation in both emergency response and personal patient care to her role at Mzanzi Spine. She holds a Level 4 Basic Ambulance Assistant qualification and has built her career around providing dignified, person-centred support to patients in high-pressure and hospital environments.

Prior to joining Mzanzi Spine, Thanzi worked as a Nurse Assistant where she supported patients with daily living activities, mobility, and vital sign monitoring, and assisted with basic clinical procedures under supervision. She also served as a Personal Care Assistant and Medical Receptionist for a neurosurgery practice, managing patient care alongside administrative duties such as scheduling, records management, and patient documentation. Her clinical grounding was further shaped by volunteer experience with TEMS 911, where she responded to emergency and non-emergency calls, administered basic life support, and assisted in stabilizing and transporting patients.

Fluent in English and Tshivenda, with working proficiency in Sepedi, Zulu, and Xhosa, Thanzi communicates comfortably with a broad range of patients and colleagues. Known for her calm demeanour, attention to detail, and genuine empathy, she is committed to delivering safe, professional, and compassionate care in every interaction.

Quality Manager

Jana is responsible for ISO compliance, regulatory alignment, and quality management at Mzanzi Spine. She plays a critical role in ensuring that our systems, processes, and documentation meet the required standards within the medical devices industry, maintaining compliance and operational integrity across the organisation.

Her professional journey began in teaching, where she developed a strong passion for education, structure, and guidance. This background has translated seamlessly into her current role, as she not only manages compliance requirements but also supports and guides the team in understanding and implementing quality management principles effectively.

Jana has completed her ISO 13485 training, equipping her with specialised knowledge in quality management systems for medical devices. Since joining Mzanzi Spine in October 2025, she has become a valuable member of the team, contributing to strengthening our regulatory framework and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Luche Zeelie

Luche Zeelie

Stock control and procurement

Luche has six years of experience in the medical field, having worked in both urology and neurosurgery practices as a medical receptionist. Through these roles, she has developed a strong understanding of specialist practice environments, theatre workflows, and multidisciplinary coordination.

She has an extensive background in pathology, where she managed daily critical results, reporting processes, and communication between laboratories, doctors, and patients. This experience has strengthened her attention to detail and her ability to work efficiently in high-pressure clinical settings.

At Mzanzi Spine, Luche is responsible for stock control and procurement. Her role includes sourcing products, managing inventory levels, obtaining the necessary NAPPI codes, and ensuring accurate and timely delivery of stock to both state and private facilities. She plays a key role in maintaining operational efficiency and regulatory compliance within our supply chain processes.

Luche has completed her CRICE qualification as well as her Healthcare Representative Course, which included the following modules: Introduction to the Healthcare Industry; Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology of all Body Systems; General Pharmacology; Code of Practice – The Marketing of Healthcare Products; and Selling Skills, Territory Management and Administration.

Her combination of clinical administrative experience, pathology expertise, and supply chain management makes her an integral part of the Mzanzi Spine team.

Jean-Mari has an extensive background in emergency room administration and billing, where she developed exceptional organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to function effectively in high-pressure healthcare environments. Her experience in emergency care settings has given her strong insight into hospital systems, patient administration, and financial processes.

At Mzanzi Spine, she serves as the Personal Assistant to all managers, providing essential administrative coordination and operational support across departments. She ensures seamless communication, structured workflow management, and day-to-day efficiency within the organisation.

Jean-Mari has completed her CRICE qualification and is currently furthering her education in Digital Marketing, demonstrating her commitment to continuous growth and innovation.
